Bio

Biography of Mishell Vale Elliston

I have practiced and studied traditional Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga, as well as medicine ball since 1998 as a student of Eric Faqir, a classically trained yogi in traditional yoga systems and martial arts from San Francisco. Eric has shared with me his knowledge while attending the Swami Shivenanda’s school in Rishikesh, the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger Bihar, the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, and the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore. I continue to expand my understanding of the ancient traditions. I’ve received my 500hr+ Certification through Advanced Yoga Sciences in San Francisco.  My emphasis is to keep the traditional instruction I’ve learned and practiced, I wish to teach the way of the ancients, so I opened my own yoga studio here in Phoenix Arizona in 2006 where I can carried on the traditional teachings that have been passed down to me.

Practicing yoga has not been physically easy for me.  When I was child I had an injury which paralyzed the entire left side of my body.  From this injury, a long and humbling journey began for me.  I retrained my mind and my body to do the simple things I had already learned, like walking.  As an adult I’ve found that yoga has been a key element in developing balance, coordination, and strength, both physically and emotionally.  Because of this experience I’ve been asked to work with people with many different physical challenges.  I enjoy this very much.  My style of training is very hands on.  I believe in correcting posture, finding that even subtle corrections lead to greater gains.  In 2011, I closed my yoga studio to pursue additional training and develop more training programs and certifications to help as many people as I can.

Since 2012, I have been working with the senior community.  As a fitness director in a retirement community I created group classes and studied Big and Loud movements for people with Parkinson’s Disease.  Here, I developed one-on-one exercise programs for individuals.  Currently I bring fitness programs to you, in your home at your pace. I work closely with physical therapists and physicians to establish an ongoing fitness program for each individual. I hope my story motivates and encourages you to reach your fullest potential.
